Privacy Policy
Privacy policy for The Cookio — how we handle your data, cookies, and advertising.
Last updated: June 3, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to The Cookio ("we", "us", "our"), operated at this website. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle data when you use our free cooking measurement tools and calculators.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. By using The Cookio, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of this site.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
Our tools process all calculations locally in your browser. The numbers you enter into any calculator — ingredient amounts, recipe quantities, temperature values — are never transmitted to our servers, stored in any database, or associated with your identity in any way.
We do not collect, store, or process:
- Names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers
- Calculator inputs or conversion results
- Payment information (no purchases exist on this site)
- Passwords or account credentials (no accounts exist)
- Health, financial, or other sensitive personal information
3. Information We Do Collect
We collect limited anonymous data to understand how our site is used and to improve its performance. This includes:
Usage Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymised information including: pages visited, time spent on pages, general geographic region (country or city level, not precise location), browser and device type, screen resolution, and referring website. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual visitors. Google Analytics data is processed by Google LLC under their own privacy policy.
Server Logs
Our web hosting provider automatically records standard server log data, including IP addresses (anonymised), request timestamps, pages requested, and HTTP status codes. These logs are used for security monitoring and technical diagnostics only and are not shared with third parties.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use the following cookies:
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users | 2 years |
| _ga_XXXXXXXX | Google Analytics | Stores session state | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes users (session) | 24 hours |
| NID, DSID | Google Ads / AdSense | Advertising personalisation | 6 months – 2 years |
| IDE | Google DoubleClick | Ad measurement and conversion | 13 months |
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from using any of our free tools — all calculators function without cookies. To opt out of Google Analytics tracking specifically, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on this website. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads relevant to your interests based on your browsing history across websites. This is known as interest-based or personalised advertising.
We do not control which specific advertisements are displayed. Google's advertising technologies may collect data including your browsing behaviour, device information, and approximate location. This data is processed by Google LLC under their Privacy Policy.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. You will still see advertisements, but they will not be personalised to your interests.
6. Third-Party Services
Our website uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- → Google Analytics 4 — Google Privacy Policy
- → Google AdSense — Google Advertising Policy
- → Google Fonts — Fonts loaded from Google's CDN. Google may log font requests. No personal data is shared.
- → Tailwind CSS CDN — Stylesheet loaded from Tailwind's CDN. Standard CDN request logging applies.
We have no control over the data collection practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
7. Data Retention
Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted. Server log files are retained for up to 90 days for security purposes. We do not maintain any personal data beyond what is collected automatically by the services described above.
8. Children's Privacy
The Cookio does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). Our site does not target children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data under applicable laws such as GDPR (European Union), UK GDPR, CCPA (California), or PIPEDA (Canada). These may include:
- The right to know what data is collected about you
- The right to request deletion of your personal data
- The right to opt out of data selling (we do not sell data)
- The right to withdraw consent for data processing
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, most of these rights will be satisfied by the fact that no such data exists. For analytics data managed by Google, requests should be directed to Google through their privacy tools.
10. Links to External Websites
Our tools and content pages link to external resources such as USDA FoodData Central and King Arthur Baking for reference purposes. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or data collection of any third-party websites. We recommend reading the privacy policy of any external site you visit through links on our pages.
11. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect our website and any data processed by it. These measures include HTTPS encryption for all connections, security headers on all server responses, and regular security reviews. However, no method of internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of The Cookio after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
13. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us through our contact page. We aim to respond to all privacy-related enquiries within 5 business days.
