About The Cookio — Free Cooking & Baking Tools

The Cookio provides free, accurate cooking measurement tools, recipe calculators, and baking guides for home cooks worldwide.

Our Story

The Cookio was built out of a frustration every home baker knows well — following a recipe carefully, measuring precisely, and still ending up with a dense loaf or a flat cake. Nine times out of ten, the culprit isn't technique. It's measurement.

Most online unit converters treat every ingredient the same way: 1 cup = 240 grams, the weight of water. But 1 cup of all-purpose flour is actually 125 grams. Honey is 340 grams. Cocoa powder is 85 grams. These differences aren't small — they're the difference between a recipe working and failing.

We built The Cookio to fix this — a free, open tool hub where every conversion is ingredient-specific, sourced from laboratory-tested data, and presented without ads cluttering the calculator or paywalls blocking the answer.

Our Mission

To make accurate cooking and baking accessible to everyone — regardless of where they live, what measurement system their recipe uses, or how much kitchen experience they have. Every tool on The Cookio is free, requires no signup, and works on any device. That is a promise we intend to keep permanently.

  • More specialty calculators — high-altitude baking, baking substitutions, sugar syrup ratios
  • Cooking guides and tutorials — technique explanations that put our tools in context
  • Recipe tips and practical baking science — understanding why recipes work
  • Ingredient guides — detailed pages covering the properties and uses of common ingredients
  • Expanded international coverage — more units and regional measurement systems

Our Data Sources

Accuracy is non-negotiable for baking. We source ingredient density data from the most authoritative food science references available:

USDA FoodData Central

The official US government nutrition and food composition database. Ingredient weights are measured in standardised laboratory conditions and updated regularly.

King Arthur Baking

America's oldest flour company has maintained professional baking weight charts tested in their dedicated test kitchen for decades. Trusted by professional pastry chefs.
